SH Engines PT2018-XGB Pro Off Road .21 Competition Buggy Engine
I'm on a lot of forums, and often I come across the question "whats a good, cheap racing engine"... the SH PT2018 is always my answer. I currently am running this engine in my MP10T, and it has no problems pushing the heavier platform. I will say this does seem to be a top end engine (8 port), as I'm usually one of the faster truggies down the straight but I have had some trouble getting enough "oompf" right out of a corner leading into a triple at my local track. I'll be playing with exhaust, clutch, and gearing next year but I am definitely satisfied... low price aside.

This is one hot engine. Tons of power, very impressive. I had a tough time tuning it at first but it was beginners error. The default adjustments in the instruction pamphlet are not even close to what the engine is factory set with. Don’t be a Jerry and start turning screws before you fire it up. Other than that this thing is a beast. This was my first race after breaking it in and I was definitely the fastest buggy in rookie out there on the straight away. My skills on the other hand when I had to turn well let just say I hope to get better. Temp ran at 229 after 10 min of racing. It’s still new so as far as longevity goes I’m not sure about that yet, but for now I’m super happy with it.

So far so good. I only have about 7 tanks of fuel through the motor but so far so good. Seems to be holding the tune. We will see how good it preforms and holds up.

Great engine IF YOU USE THE RIGHT PIPE.

Do not run the SH 2060 pipe with this engine. I know it's the only SH pipe Amain sells, but it is awful. Performance isn't bad, but you will get horrible runtime. I struggled to get even 7 minutes on a tank with this combo, and was pitting at 6 minutes just to be safe. I've tested the Performa/Orion/CRF 2149 pipe and it's a night and day difference. With the 7.0mm venturi I easily get 9-10 minutes on a tank with no loss in performance.

With that out of the way, I definitely recommend this engine. Tons of compression when new, so be sure to take break in slow and pre heat it before starting. Break in was easy, and I had not problems with the engine dying. The carb is a long needle LSN and takes a little getting used to, but it isn't bad. I'm running a 0.5mm idle gap and have a good tune with 30% fuel. It runs hot. Around 270-290F with a race tune on the track. So far this hasn't caused any issues. Two gallons in and it's still got plenty of compression and a very stable idle/tune.

For $180 it's a steel. Very nice work on the sleeve, nice crank with counterweight slugs, and the venturis it comes with are nice. It'll keep up with any engine once you pair it with a proper pipe.

Engine has great top end power but lacks low end not as much I would like. But still worth the price love this engine.
