I use protek black label servos in everything i race. 170bl in 1/8 scale and 160 in 10th scale.i use to use mks or futaba and one day tried the older protek chad Bradley servo and since then never looked back protek bl servos are very good quality and wont let u down. Speed is great and the torque is amazing. They are very strong servos will last u long
Excellent servo highly recommended, using it in my 1/10 off-road with great success has a very nice response and tight feeling.
It is a bad departure to write this review in comparison to all the other good reviews that you see about this servo. I however have had 2 bad experiences with this servo. First, I have had ProTek servos in the past that have been excellent, were very strong torque power, and these servos would have lasted a long time. For some reason I got a bad batch with these two. When I got the first 160 TBL I installed it and it gave normal operation of a ProTek servo. But I learned that I could hear servo noise that was out of spec because these servos make no noise whatsoever and neither do any other servos I have used. There was a light twitching sound in the servo that was noticeable that sounded like some type of electronic interference. I tested it on another receiver and the same noise was still evident. I didn't know whether this servo would malfunction fully so I returned it to A-Main. I received my second servo and didn't even install it and immediately plugged it in expecting to hear a quiet servo. To my shock I heard the exact same twitching sound however this time it was even louder. I had to return this one as well. If you go to page 2 of these reviews Clifford Flores said the same thing. I don't know if it is possible that there are whole batches of electronics that are defective in a lot, but this may have been the case here. Lately, I have noticed that the quality from China, Taiwan, Korea, or other Asian countries just isn't what it used to be. If you read my review of the Tekin Gen4 Spec-R 13.5T, the same thing happened with this motor. In comparison, my Motive MC4 was hand checked, assembled, and packaged by a professional at the Wisconsin office. For this motor there was an 18 part Analysis and Quality Control Spec Sheet, including a visual inspection, machine test and motor temp, and the timing was optimized and pre-set. Upon installation, this Motiv MC4 17.5T motor could power my Team Associated B74.1 4WD with a near power level as the Tekin Gen4 Spec-R 13.5T. In this comparison, poor quality control standards should be a justification that electronics should be produced here in the USA like they used to be. Corporations just will not have it this way though because of their profit margin of executive greed. Much of our electronics must be produced at FOXCONN and abroad in order to justify that unheard of profit margin and eliminate good paying American jobs. What do you think?
This is my standard steering servo for my 1/10th scale off-road buggies and stadium truck. I really like the speed an torque this servo delivers when I'm racing (though i'm a slow guy :-)).
Nice low profile, very short plug wire though, so needs to be close to Rx or you may need an extension.
Very impressed with this servo, it's quiet and fast. Quality of the case is excellent. Hopefully it stands the test of time.
so far first impressions are good, 5 stars.
This is my second Protek 160TBL servo. I was so impressed by my first purchase I had to get another for one of my other vehicles, and will be getting 3 more over time to replace the others in my vehicles.
Used it in my eb410.2 build and it's very fast and very strong for the size. The aluminum case is very beautiful as well.
I was about to buy another brand servo but after I put my order together (big order $1K plus) in the cart and saw what the total was and I needed to save a few bucks, seeing this 160TBL in the recommended area for the kit I was buying I said why not, save 30 bucks which can go towards tires, upon getting the order in I was blown away with how detailed and cleanly built the servo looked, but looks don't matter if it don't work the way it should right? well still a little unsure on my purchase even though it looked good, I built my kit and got everything all setup, upon first drive of my new 22X-4 and seeing how responsive and fast this servo was, I started to like the servo, then later that day after trying to drive again after a 22 year break from 10th scale, I cart wheeled the buggy massively, it popped ball cups off and scraped my nice carbon fiber shock tower like no other, the servo however, it laughed it off like it was nothing, popped all the ball cups back on and away I went again to relive my younger years, to anyone in doubt about protek servos, trust me, I am sold on this brand now, and just tonight learned its a A Main brand product, which I respect a good quality servo being produced as a house brand, wish they made some good heavy duty servos for my 5th scales, I would buy them in a heart beat.
I thank u guys for shipping merchandise fast and that quality of this servo is one of the best ones I have bought
The Protek 160tbl has been holding up extremely well as a dig servo! It's really robust and instantaneous after a few tuning with the receiver but overall I love the slim design! It has really nice premium look which suits well for my Capra build. I highly recommend this servo!
Installed this servo in my 22 5.0 and it was amazing!!! The car does what I think I'm telling it to do now. Alot less bobbles and wrecks on the race track. Of course I'm coming from an older but decent Futaba servo. I would reccommend these to anyone they are awesome!!
This was the perfect servo for the show / trail truck I was building. The best thing about this servo is it fit perfect with that low profile case it is in. Its quite and packs plenty of power. At 6.4 v I am running at the lowest setting. No need for 7.4 in a show truck. It is moving a set of Patagonia's on SSD bead locks. Over all it is great for the price. Would buy again
I purchased this servo as an upgrade to my Traxxas slash RTR servo I did the monster Slash mod and the stock servo had trouble keeping the bigger tires turned this servo rocks easily turns my 2.8" tires the servo is very fast also I will definitely be recommending this servo to all my friends
I love it I think it works great I cannot wait to put it on the “Juice” Lipo LOLAre use it for eight scale kyosho inferno steering application and its phenomenal works great really happy with its performance like i said cant wait to get it on the juice
I am normally a Futaba guy but went ahead and tried this. Amazing servo, just as fast as my Futaba S9373SV in SR mode. Amazingly quiet operation. Will be using this from now on!
Great servo, I run it on TLR Ten 3.0 and working well so far. I’ll buy ProTek servo again for my next project.
Great servo. Looks good as well. I have this in both Losi 22 5.0 and now my new 22X-4. Shipped fast.
I've always used Futaba servos until purchasing this one. I am very pleased with the quality and performance of this servo! Very glad I purchased this and will look to Protek products for future servo needs.
Quick servo with plenty of torque and in a low profile aluminum cased package.
It's got the goods, and the connector lead is shorter than a lot of servos "used to be", so for most competition vehicles, it's one less thing to fiddle with to get a good wire management layout.
