The Losi Night Crawler SE is a great option for drivers that love scale crawling and night driving. It's built on the proven Losi Night Crawler heritage, but offers more lights and an Exoskeleton cage. The cage and body provide impressive scale details without compromising performance or durability. Additional front and rear rock lights will make it easier to see obstacles in your path and brighter LED light strips will further light the way. This crawler feels most at home on rocky terrain-the rougher, the better-and it doesn't shy away from mud or water, either.

You don't see a lot of good reviews on this crawler but for pure rock (and driftwood and any other junk) crawling, I found it to be superior to my TRX-4 with both bone stock. I have now had it for 4 months and have had time to really vet it well.

The best:
Worm Drive Gearing. This feature guarantees a slow crawl with no back-rolling or loss of control on steep ascents or descents. It also keeps the speed slow and the torque even throughout acceleration

The good:
It crawls fantastically. The body geometry allows a 40 degree body-twist that is invaluable for crawling brick piles, going from log-to-log, making tight turns up steep, bumpy slopes,
Thankfully it came with factory bead-lock rims. This allowed me to weight them with lead solder right off the bat unlike my TRX-4 Bronco rims.
The factory Super Swampers are a decent crawling tire but give them time for break-in as they are a bit slippery for 10-12 hours when new.

The bad:
Factory 35t motor is weak
While gearing up a tooth or two on pinion gear can help get the RPMs up for a bit of extra oomph, doing so smoked the motor in short order
The worm drive gears destroy brushed motors under 35t.
The factory ESC is super basic and does not offer any mode options. I run a hobby wing quiickset 80 amp which allows me to set important parameters such as freewheeling, forward force, and brake
Factory Trans/reciever are adequate but cheap.
It is only available in RTR form which sucks because I would upgrade my kids Redcats if I could get them without the crummy electronics
There are few aftermarket parts available which sucks I can see many ways to improve and accessorize this beast but nothing is available. You cannot even change the body type easily

I would give this 5 stars because I love it and it is my comp rock crawler but the bands are pretty annoying. For pure crawling it's great. I run a Holmes 54t brushed motor with 18t pinion. It is very slow and very competitive.

Losi Night Crawler SE 4WD 1/10 RTR Rock Crawler (Blue)
First off, right out of the box this thing will climb over just about anything. My crawling buddies were very impressed with the articulation of the suspension. Going over rocks this thing makes you look better than you really are - it is that easy to drive. Now, if you are looking for a trailing rig this is not it. Top speed is around a slow walking speed but hey, it is a rock crawler not a racer. The lights are bright and really light up the ground for night driving. My only gripe with this crawler is it is extremely hard to remove or install the body. The exoskeleton is very stiff and thus it is very difficult to spread the body enough to clear the side body mounts. It is so stiff that you do not even need to use body clips. I usually end up prying off or on one side at a time. I may look into doing some kind of Velcro type body mount modification and remove the side mounts. The only other issue is the steering servo seems a little slow but since crawling is done at slow speeds I do not see this as a problem. If are considering one of these I think you will be very happy with it especially for the price and you don't need to do any expensive upgrades.

Losi Night Crawler SE 4WD 1/10 RTR Rock Crawler (Blue)
I think it is a great crawler and it exceeds my expectations for it but the reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I what to catch it as it fell down a hill and burnt my finger on the drive shaft. It was 127F and when I called horizon hobby they said that they don't worry about it until it gets to 150F. Now I didn't see any warnings about it in the book but it would have been nice to know before this happened
