I bought this charger about a month ago here on the site
I'm so pleased with this crazy charge!
I'll sum it up in three words. Small, strong, smart!
Worth every dollar!
Throws all the toys (chargers) I have in the trash (:
incidentally. There is software update 2.18 for LiHV battery
It took me quite awhile to realize the potential and justify the price of a high end charger, but after seeing for myself from my fellow racers what a charger like this can do, I was convinced. I purchased my iCharger 406Duo here from Amain Hobbies. I haven't had it very long but so far Hands down THE best charger I have ever owned. It actually stays on the charge or discharge current you set it on (unlike my Hitec) and will significantly reduce your charging, discharging or cycling times. I feel that this charger is so much more accurate which is very important to me because I have a lot of money invested in race lipo packs and I want the best performance possible out of them and I want them to last.
Great charger with lots of options,i charge 1s on one side and 2s on the other works great! Also dicharges and you can cycle packs.
Very good charger. It balances better than any charger I ever had. Great display that tells you what you need to know. The programing is easy and you can customize the charger system to your own liking. This is the second iCharger 406DUO I bought from Flight Test Store and it took 4 days to get to my home.
Really great charger. Allows you to monitor everything going on with each cell while charging. Menu took some getting used to but once you do its easy I just played around with it till I figured it out. Highly recommend
This is the first charger I have purchased since getting back into racing and I could be happier. It is simple to use and I have had no issues thus far. I know I've only scratched the surface with what this charger can do!
I liked mine so much after a week of using it I bought a second one! One for indoor and outdoor racing! After using it you will never own another charger!
This is replacing my Orion Duo charger, which decided to puke the electronics display. It also is not my first iCharger, as I currently own a 4010 Duo (Purchased used), an X6 (From Amain), and X8 (From Amain).
I chose another iCharger because of familiarity and their robust construction. I wanted something smaller than the 4010, to take to the track with the X6 & X8. My whole family races, which means 5 cars are on the track, at a minimum. The 406 is a perfect blend of power and size.
My only point to be critical of is the balance board. The form factor is great, when charging bullet connection batteries, with the usual cables having the balance JST connector wires running the length of the cable. However, when batteries have to be butted up or stacked, to permit their JST connectors to reach one board—On both channels, it’s quite awkward spacially speaking. Two individual balance boards would have been nice (Like the 4010 includes).
I know, I know. It's expensive. And you'll still need a power supply, which is likely another $60 to $90, plus, you may want a discharge bank (which I do not have, unneeded for me)--but if you're willing to put down the cash, it is, by bar, the best premier charger on the market.
I read all the reviews, the raging popularity with this unit--never saw anyone complain, every pro always ran this unit. But why? Well, I finally understand. Its just fabulous. Every aspect of it it. Easy to use. All the data / information kept on the cells, the speed and flexibility--heck, I can even charge my iPhone on it when I have too. I've "saved" batteries that I thought were dead, with this unit.
If you're serious about this hobby, then you likely have a a buggy (with electronics) that you've invested $1000 on, you have a $300 to $500 radio system, each good quality battery is $60 to $100 (or more)--why would you have a cheap, crappy charger. Batteries are expensive, dangerous, and need as much care as your buggy. Don't take the cheap path here. Invest in. your charge.
Buy a freaking iCharger. You wil question it the decision, up until you do, but you will never question it after you buy...
Awesome charger/discharger. Charge and discharge 2 packs at 40 amps. Small learning curve. I did print off the owners manual rather looking at the CD they send with the charger.
I've had 2 for several years, and they're still going strong. Hundreds and hundreds of charges with the best charging algorithms available. I even modded my older one with a more powerful fan setup to help increase discharge rates. I'm here writing this review because I'm considering purchasing another for a smaller charge case build (I need at least two channels or I'd grab an i6).
I love these things!
Wow, this is a great little charger! The capabilities of this thing are awesome. The reason I purchased this charger was for it”s 40 amp discharge/charge rate.
By cycling a couple of 2S lips packs just one time, it brought down the internal resistance of the packs dramatically. Which if you’re racing stock class 17.5 it makes a huge difference. I noticed more “punch ” from the packs immediately and not to mention that the charge time is a fraction of what it usually takes to fill a pack using one of the common four button units out there.
The menu layout takes a little getting used to, but once you do it’s actually very user friendly.
Just keep in mind that you will need to pick up a power supply, and if you plan to use the high discharge function you will also need a discharge bank. I recommend RL Power, he has really nice stuff that’s fair priced and he shipped the items out right away.
Bottom line, I highly recommend this charger if you’re looking for something with higher capabilities, no disappointments.
top of the line charger great unit , not so great they do not include the bullets to mount on your power supply you have to get those separately , no instruction manual just a disk , tried to play the disk laptop didn't like it so I will have to get help from others that have the same charger.
Great full function charger. If you're particular about how you treat your LiPo's, this charger has the ability to let you set your preference. If you just want a charger that works with minimal fuss, this charger can get you charging in 3 clicks. If you want the highest charge rate you can get away with, this charger can hit up to 40A. It's up to you how you use this charger, and how you treat your batteries, this charger just won't hold you back if you "know better" than a default profile.
A quick note, a balance lead extension is a lot easier to deal with than the combined balance board included. I mostly charge 2s batteries for racing, so a balance lead extension with the left top index lug xacto cut off fits great, and fits all the connections inside a lipo sack.
Really like this charger a lot, nothing to complain about yet.
Because my first charger, the 208B, was a very good charger, my next one would be an iCharger. I am not an expert user and don’t want to be, but this charger accomplishes what I want it to. That is, to charge my 6S LiPos independently of each other in a safe, rapid succession.
Naming convention interprets the 406 Duo as having Dual (Duo) output ports at 40 Amps each for charging up to 6S Li-Po packs. Charges LiPo, Lilo, LiFe and NiZn, NiMH/NiCd, Pb.
Pricey? Yes, but I trust Junsi iCharger products, I like to have more than I can handle, I like to get lots of years of use, and I feel I am getting what I paid for.
Surprisingly small housing. Has more features than I want to get into within the first months of use. The colorful screen displays readings for each cell while charging, and it provides IR readings per pack and for each cell. Thanks to having owned the 208B, learning the basic 306 Duo’s screens was a lot easier than I had read about in customer reviews. The knob and buttons took me about 1 hour of use to be comfortable with. With some use, I will explore beyond the basics to uncover its powerful feature set.
Gripes? Not mentioned or noticed was that the 306 Duo does not come with banana leads to plug into my PSU. Understandably, the buyer has to supply/solder these. 10AWG cables with pre-tinned ends are supplied, and luckily, I had spare solderable 4mm banana plugs. Had to drill them out to 3/16” to easily insert that 10AWG wire. Included are other cables as well as the balance board. This is as complete a package as I expected.
The iCharger 306 Duo does what I planned to do with it. That is, I fly with LiPo pack 1, Land, Charge. While that is charging, I fly with LiPo pack 2, Land, Charge. While that is charging, I fly with LiPo pack 3, Land, Charge. Repeat.
I really believe that I made a good choice which will yield just as many years, if not more, than my first iCharger.
Thanks to Amain for carrying the 306 Duo, the easy-to-navigate website, great prices, easy checkout, secure packaging, and fast shipping.
Fantastic charger, was using the isdt for more than a year, no comparison, 70A, 1400W is rediculous, and ways more functions then a "average" charger, I can fully carger a 7600mah in 10 minutes and discharge from full to stoarge in 5 minutes with a resistor on the other channel, overall, this charger makes charging and discharging so much fun!
I enjoyed it!
Once I learned how to use it I it does everything I need it to do and more. Awesome charger I would highly recommend it.
I recently upgraded from a venom pro duo to the iCharger 406 duo. My whole nuclear family is involved in RCs now (epic win), and now that 4 people in one house each have their own cars and batteries it was becoming a struggle for me to stay on top of the family's charging needs. Getting 14-18 batteries ready for a day out was literally a 7-8 hour process, and if we didn't use all the packs due to rain or a breakage, getting the unused packs to storage was even worse.
The 406 duo 40a capabilities allow me to parallel balance charge about 16 packs from storage in less than 2 hours. When we're done for the day, I can discharge unused packs at high speed by using the ichargers regenerative discharge capabilities - essentially dumping unused packs into used packs, getting everything back to storage voltage incredibly quickly.
With a good power supply (I'm using a 24v 40a 1000w server psu) the 406 duo is a fully race day capable setup as well - letting you purposefully cycle packs to lower IR, or just continually charging as you go. If you have about 10, 10 minute packs you are all day capable.
This is a premium price charger but for very good reason. I would recommend this product to anyone who is even moderately invested in the hobby.
always a good experience at A Main. Like dealing with this company for my rc racing needs.
