Furitek Stinger 118 Brushless System for Traxxas TRX-4M
This makes the trx4m nearly perfect. Just needed a few more tweaks to make it a a 5/5 for me. Biggest issue is just making it not look terrible, bc you are either going to be using zip ties or mounting tape on the receiver.
Speaking of the receiver, you can still use your trx4m transmitter if you pick up a Traxxas 6519 for around $30, rather than spending over a $100 for furitek's stuff. After installing my forward and reversed were flipped, but I was able to fix that within the app.

Great combo until it wasn’t worked for a solid 2 minutes before the motor puffed smoke

Furitek Stinger 118 Brushless System for Traxxas TRX-4M
Great power and torque and control. However, there are a few drawbacks. As you should already know before buying this, you will need your own receiver and transmitter, which is great for my needs. I love how you can make your vehicle move at the slowest rate you’ve ever seen or drive at an extreme high rate of speed in scale to the vehicle. The Bluetooth app is easy to use with my iPhone however, the neutral break option that should keep your vehicle from rolling downhill at a stop. Does not really seem to lock the motor in place as it should this may be due to all the brass hardware upgrades I have adding too much weight? It is easy to install and set up. However, there is no mounting equipment included so unless you like the look of zip ties everywhere, you will need to fabricate something to mount your receiver and the ESC. What I did is at the hobby shop I bought a sheet of plastic ABS traced the OEM speed control and cut it out and attached it to the existing mounts. This gave me a platform to adhere my aftermarket receiver, and the new ESC. This is much better than trying to zip tie it and having a wire mess. One thing I am slightly concerned about is the exposed rotating motor. Yes, it looks cool, but I am worried that this could be an issue with waterproofing and or dirt/dust? Mainly, I am glad I am no longer using the poor quality, traxxas electronics!
Keep in mind if you purchased the official Traxxas light kit with the cool back up lights and brake lights, this will now be useless even if you plug it into your new upgraded receiver they will not power on at all. I thought they would at least power on constant running lights, but they do not. I guess these lights run on 3v and of course your receiver is putting out 6 V plus? So unless you can build an adapter to downstep the voltage or find something online do what I did and buy yourself a nine dollar set of 6 V lights.
