We finally get to welcome the Flite Test SPEAR to the FT plane family!!  You can fit it all in the new FT SPEAR! This plane was designed to be able to carry all your gear when you fly!  you can put your GoPro, board camera, 2 batteries, fpv gear, and even a vector system, if you have one. Also, if you have seen the episode it EVEN HOLDS chipotle chips, guac and a BURRITO! The Spear has a unique center console that is made larger and wider for the very purpose for storage.  The larger wing allows for a larger payload compared to the FT Mini Arrow!  This wing also allows for you to strap/tape bendable tripods with cameras for different aerial viewpoints if you are trying to get that epic shot! The Spear also is super stable and allows you to perform acrobatically challenging maneuvers with ease!

Flite Test Spear Electric Airplane Kit (1041mm)
I still cannot get over how stable these flying wings are... My first wing was the FT Arrow and I really enjoyed it. The FT Spear is even better, as it more stable due to the larger size. That being said, it still retains the "laser" maneuverability that I loved about the FT Arrow. The stall speed is so low that I actually have a hard time landing it near me due to the length of my runway. Whenever I flare to land it just pops up and keeps flying!

This is an easy scratch build for a very versatile airplane. I am using a 2218 1,120kV motor, 9x7.5E prop, 40A ESC (w/ seperate 5A UBEC), and a 2,200mAh 4S battery. This combination works great for me, providing all the power I would ever want, while still allowing for some long flight times. The giant hatch is also a bonus, as I really, really, hate to mess with small compartments (talking to you John Overstreet... :) Another great feature is how the ESC is exposed to the elements for ultra-efficient cooling.

Critiques... the build video is inconsistent with the paper plans. There are some additional fins on the plans that get no mention in the video and another large piece of the aircraft is one piece in the plans, but two in the build video. That being said, nothing too difficult to work around. I would also highly recommend painting, as it is VERY easy to lose perspective when flying.

Flite Test Spear Electric Airplane Kit (1041mm)
The Spear is a great airplane, had to modify the electric motor mount a bit to have enough room for the beagle bone blue board with ardupilot. I recommend to paint it before the first flight, as it easily gets inverted in the wind.

Flite Test Spear Electric Airplane Kit (1041mm)
I originally purchased the spear as my first plane that was not a trainer. I decided to take the cheeper road and put in my own electronics insted of buying them with my speedbuild kit "bad idea" these guys are professionals at what they do and know what is best. This kit was absolutely fantastic to put together and mind blowing how well everything lined up and fit. I'm still currently waiting to come up with enough to purchase the power pack but if it flies as well as it went together it will definitely be a five star kit. Thanks for everything you guys do

Flite Test Spear Electric Airplane Kit (1041mm)
This was a quick and easy build with no experience needed! The clear step by step video is what made it happen, excellent work Josh Bixler and the Flite Test team, BZ!I would say even without dialing in any expo (I forgot to because I was anxious to get back in the air) that this is a great flying wing. I will definitely be buying more speed build kits in the future.
