After 6 years of Flite Test foamys, the Red Baron flies again! The FT DR1 Triplane was designed to build fast, fly slow and look great both on the ground and in the air. We put a lot of effort into taking a design that is known for being a handful and making easy to both build and fly. The FT DR1 Triplane is a 3 channel slow fly aircraft that can turn on a dime and be flown in a very small location. Loops, barrel rolls, wing overs and many other classic maneuvers are all possible with this little warbird. The FT DR1 Triplane is also a perfect companion for its arch rival the FT SE5, an iconic British biplane that flew the skies and shared lead with its German nemesis. Our hope is that the DR1 will be the source of many happy memories as you take to the skies and recreate epic battles with your friends in your own backyard.

We want you to have an amazing experience both in building and flying, This kit comes with everything you need to complete the FT DR1. Push-rods, control horns, firewalls and all other items needed to make this airframe electronics ready are included in the kit. If you choose to purchase our power pack F and wheels, balance, flight performance and assembly will be quick and easy.

Flite Test Mighty Mini DR1 Triplane Electric Airplane Kit (736mm)
The DR1 is my fifth build and it went together well. The build experience was fun with the usual high quality of FT kits. I am new to the hobby but the maiden flight was a success even in a steady breeze. The DR1 flies beautifully at low speed and had no bad tendencies. I also have the SE5 which I found difficult to control, tail heavy and sensitive to CG placement. The DR1 is my favorite model and flies like a bird. It flies so nicely I have been able to teach myself ground takeoffs and successful landings.

Flite Test Mighty Mini DR1 Triplane Electric Airplane Kit (736mm)
I’ve had this plane for 3 or 4 weeks now. Super fun to build, straight forward with the kit and instructions. Make sure you’re servos are set up properly if you have a transmitter that can’t reverse servos. Right was left and up was down first go around... hard to fix after it’s all together. Originally had the A power pack motor installed, flew but didn’t climb well and couldn’t sustain speed. Bought the F pack motor and it is definitely a flier now. Im running a 6x4 prop versus the 6x3 that comes in the pack. No issues with stalls, very responsive controls, does exactly what you tell it to. Just fun all around. Highly recommend this for new fliers or someone looking for a small park flier. Great job on this one flitetest!

Flite Test Mighty Mini DR1 Triplane Electric Airplane Kit (736mm)
My 12 yr old son built this one by himself. He finished in one day. According to him there were no issues. He put an oversized plastic pilot in the cockpit and big landing gear on it. On first flight it struggled to stay up. I noticed that the front motor cowling did not allow much prop thrust to travel past it. It sticks out. I cut it flush to the body and the plane now flies great. My son did not want to remove the pilot figure or put on a lighter wheels on it. The plane handles wind and some hard landings. I painted it cherry red with white accents. He put the iron crosses and other German insignias on it. It looks amazing. This plane can do all the acrobatic maneuvers. It looks super cool in the air!

Flite Test Mighty Mini DR1 Triplane Electric Airplane Kit (736mm)
This plane is just regal. Painted up like the Red Baron, it’s one of my most talked about Flite Test planes. I put a camera on the skids and fly it between trees and around obstacles. It doesn’t like wind, but rewards good conditions with beautiful turns, loops and rolls. The build was good and with some reinforcements to the wing tips and cabanes, it will hold up to a bit of abuse or less than perfect landings. Be sure to pin the elevator on landing as it lives to tip forward. Wonderful looks, good flying characteristics.
